Biannual Art Exhibition Awards Announced at Grimsby Public Art Gallery

Ontario Arts Council – Northern Arts Grant

I am thrilled to announce that I have been awarded a Northern Arts Grant from the Ontario Arts Council in the new works category. This grant will support the production of a new series of large-scale drawings that will explore the connection between sleep and dormancy in nature.

I am honoured to have the OAC’s  support for this project and I am so grateful for this opportunity.

Biannual Juried Art Exhibition at Grimsby Public Art Gallery

Two of my recent drawings from the Dual Series are now on exhibition at the Grimsby Public Art Gallery. I am pleased to have had Dual (Decatur and Barron), 2012  and Dual (Wooten and Miller), 2012  selected to be a part of their Biannual Juried Exhibition.

The Grimsby Public Art Gallery’s Bi-annual Juried Exhibition is a province-wide competition, open to artists working in all media, including visual art, fine crafts, installation and new media. The call for entry was widely advertised earlier this year and by the June 29th deadline we had received over 250 entries. From these, the jurors selected the 32 pieces that will be in the show. The 2012 Biannual Juried Exhibition will be on display in the Main Gallery from August 31st to October 7th. The jurors for the show were Carolyn Dover, Ivan Jurakic and Stuart Reid.

The Artist Project

I will be participating in this year’s The Artist Project. It runs March 1 – 4th, 2012 at the Queen Elizabeth Building in Toronto.

The Artist Project celebrates its 5th year with another exciting show featuring original works from over 200 carefully juried, independent contemporary artists. Artists from a variety of geographic and creative backgrounds will converge and connect with patrons looking to get a glimpse of tomorrow’s Art Stars. From seasoned collectors and first time art buyers, to gallerists and interior designers, visitors will find this art fair a rare opportunity to meet and purchase work directly from Canadian and International artists.

Drawing 2012 at John B. Aird Gallery, Toronto

My drawing Dual was recently accepted into the 13th annual drawing exhibition Drawing 2012 at the John B. Aird Gallery in Toronto and I am thrilled to announce that I was awarded second place.

Drawing 2012 runs February 7 – March 2, 2012

Here is more information about the exhibition:

This year, 78 artists from across Canada submitted more than 150 works
in a variety of styles, media and techniques for consideration. From
these, two jurors selected the 35 works in the exhibition and awarded
prizes.

The jurors awarded two First Prizes, one to Erin Finley of Toronto,
Ont. for an ink, watercolour and gold leaf drawing entitled
“Conversion of Saint Paul in Brogues”; and one to Julia Vandepolder of
Hillsburgh, Ont. for a charcoal, graphite, oil/chalk pastel & conté
drawing entitled “The Green Room”. The second prize went to Amanda
Burk of North Bay, Ont. for a large scale charcoal drawing entitled
“Dual”. Two Honorable Mentions were awarded. Peter Large of Stella,
Ont. received the Japanese Paper Place Award for a graphite and colour
pencil drawing entitled, “Spike’s Nest”. David Woodward of Kingston,
Ont. received the Curry’s Art Store Award for a colour pencil drawing
entitled “The Century Lost Its Hold”.

The John B. Aird is one of the few galleries in Canada to showcase a juried
exhibition where drawing is promoted as an art form unto itself, is on
the ground floor of the Macdonald Block, an Ontario government
building at 900 Bay Street in Toronto. It is open Monday to Friday,
from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.

Currently, drawings from my Dual series are on exhibition at the Affordable Art Fair Los Angeles with Blunt.  The exhibition runs Janurary 18 – 22, 2012 at The Event Deck at L.A.
