About

Based in St. Catharines, Ontario, Amanda Burk received her MFA from the Nova Scotia College of Art and Design (2003) and her Honours BA Fine Arts Specialization from the University of Waterloo (2001).

Drawing is central to Burk’s art practice and research. In her art practice, she works primarily in charcoal and graphite, often working large-scale. From 2009 to 2021, Burk lived in Northern Ontario. Her work featuring animal and winter imagery is a reflection of the time she spent living in the North. Her work can be found in such collections as the City of Toronto, COBRA to Contemporary (Netherlands) and the Thunder Bay Art Gallery and her work has been generously supported by the Ontario Arts Council. Burk’s drawings were featured in the International Drawing Annual, INDA 13, published by Manifest Press, and she has been interviewed by Tussle Magazine.

Burk's interest in drawing extends to curatorial work focused in contemporary Canadian drawing and a research collaboration with the NSCAD Drawing Lab.

Burk is an Associate Professor in the Department of Visual Arts at Brock University.
